73PROVERBS 31 The Goldmine of ~ SPIRITUAL WISDOM ~
The Proverbs are a phenomenal compendium of life changing pithy sayings! There is a marvelous, undeniable, remarkable wisdom found here that is able to warm the heart and light the path of the believer! It can also capture the attention of unbelievers as well! The majority of this brilliantly wonderful sacred manuscript was composed by the astutely intelligent King Solomon! It is in his latter days of life he candidly shares his plethora of trustworthy, prudently judicious awe-inspiring wisdom. This is the last and final Proverbs in this prodigious series on “PROVERBS The Goldmine Of SPIRITUAL WISDOM!”
There is an indescribable luxurious wealth of expressed wisdom within these (31) thirty-one Proverbs! King Solomon came to the throne with great promise and privilege! He had the opportunity to ask God for anything in the entire world! Yet he asked for “a discerning heart!” He wanted to know how to properly lead God’s people. God gave him innumerable riches as well as immeasurable wealth! “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have you asked for death for your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never be anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for - both riches and honor…” I King 3. No doubt he was the wisest man to ever live! He prolifically composed over 3,000 Proverbs. Throughout this series I have shared tidbits of King Solomon’s extravagant, eventful and tumultuous life. There is much to learn from this man of prominence who was bestowed with God’s Favor!
This has been a wonderful enlightening expeditious journey through these Proverbs. What is so amazing is that this particular one is of the most legendary Proverbs; yet it was written by someone who is literally unknown. King Lemuel is the noted attributed author of Proverbs 31! However we do know that Lemuel was also a king! Lemuel means “devoted one!” How ironic this Proverbs was taught to him by his wise godly mother! It is full of prudent precepts and warnings! What an immense reputable legacy to pass down to one’s child!
Proverbs is a superb book of intense practical wisdom! It contains invaluable instructions for living wise, prosperous, spiritually sound, well rounded, bountifully "BLESSED" God centered lives! It tackles subjects such as hate, humility, justice, marriage, family life, day to day living, neighbors, friends, co workers, business affairs, laziness, anger, strife, wealth and poverty. Oh and so much much more! There are a plethora of golden spiritual nuggets to mine and enjoy! These Proverbs are indeed an endless and wealthy “Goldmine of SPIRITUAL WISDOM!”

PROVERBIAL LESSON HIGHLIGHTS
Instructions for Leaders
The first verses of Proverbs 31:1-9 starts by giving essential and wise necessary advice for “Leaders” in order to lead effectively! How can you properly lead others and by pass the Creator and Sustainer of life? The most important possession in life to seek to possess is our relationship with the LORD!
How interesting that this Proverbs commences with an explicit stern warning! “Do Not spend your strength on women...” King Solomon the wise and richest man to ever live, had (700) seven hundred wives and (300) three hundred concubines. Although he had clear instructions from the Lord not to; He still married foreign women who did not believe in the Lord! He allowed them to subsequently lead him away from the Lord. He was “unequally yoked” with them. Keep this in mind as he shares his experiences! It is important that we always remember to give honor to God first in our relationships! No doubt that King Lemuel was aware of this!
God is our Maker and Creator He definitely knows what is best for each of us! He allows us to choose His way or just “do your own thing!” However there are consequences... Being a woman who truly LOVES the LORD brings much "PEACE" and contentment! It is only in HIM will you find true "Security & Significance!
We are also warned here about the downfall of drinking too much wine. Wine can cloud one’s good judgment and cause them to act indignantly and or make brash impulsive decisions! King Lemuel‘s mother gave him sound godly advice that he candidly shares in this Proverb!
King Solomon was a great King! His earthly kingdom was one of great prominence! He handled the pressures of being a king well, but he faltered greatly in his personal and family life. God wants us to be successful in ALL areas of our lives! We must take God’s Word seriously and consider what He has told us. There are always dire consequences for not listening!
This noteworthy Proverb describes in detail the “Virtuous woman; a strong godly compassionate feminine woman with outstanding qualities which exude confidence! She is an intelligent, God fearing, beautiful both inside and out, resourceful, well rounded married woman. It is quite evident that her husband respects and completely trusts her. Single women you too can be a virtuous woman! Don't compromise godly principles just to be accepted! God stands with you as you stand on His principles! Ask God to place a desired mate in your life at the proper time. In the meantime commit your life to Him! Don't give yourself away in an uncommitted relationship!
Rubies were a much valued treasure during this time. There were also rare sought after pink pearls from a mollusk that were found in the Red Sea. This woman is compared and contrasted with a brilliant gemstone of much value that was not easily found. It is important to consult God whenever seeking a spouse! When making the commitment to marry God’s Way you want to make sure that you share the same core values! Being unequally yoked makes marriage much more difficult! Being patient is important it helps you to better discipline yourself! It is well worth it to wait on the right spouse... In a God centered marriage you will better grow together in every way! Being able to TRUST your spouse is very important!
In this 21st century many seek to change the True meaning of marriage! Know that God has not changed His design for marriage. Marriage is the ultimate relationship between a man and a woman with God as the center. It is ordained by God. Many marriages do not make it because they lose or shift their focus to manmade ideas away from what God says. They do not subscribe to God's order in their life! Some do not take the time to really get to know their spouse before marriage. Others do not consider God at all…
The virtuous woman is a strong woman of God who knows who she is! She realizes that a man does not complete her! But her commitment and allegiance to both God and her husband are unquestionable! Her family and household are important to her and there is much order in her life. She is efficient, prudent, organized and frugal and is able to manage her household well as well as business affairs wisely! She is not at all negligent or slothful she does her husband good and not evil! She lives to please the LORD! She is an asset to both her husband, family and friends!
The virtuous woman is a discerning woman. She continuously consults the Lord for direction. Her ways are not dominated by the ways of the world nor is she oblivious to what is going on. She does not get bogged down in trivial matters. She is consistent and forthright, strong yet feminine! She works willingly with her hands to provide for her husband and family. Yet she also reaches out to help others! She is not at all selfish or self centered! Her focus is on God! She is a good manager! She knows how and is equipped to handle business transactions of all kinds! She realizes that there is always more to learn and humility is a virtue! She wants what is best for her family and they are adorned in the finest appropriate quality clothing of beautiful workmanship and detail.
There is a lot here to consider. How does this apply now? There is nothing wrong with fine apparel as mentioned. To be able to dress appropriate and properly at any given time is useful and needful. Purple for example was a prized color often thought of to be suitable for royalty! It took a lot of tedious time and expense to attain purple dye. The color was extracted from a mollusk whose glands was crushed and excreted red and purplish hues when exposed to the air. It was often imported from afar therefore costly and those who were wealthy were afforded these colorful garments. Quality clothing will last and fits much better! My point is this; the virtuous woman did not dress shabby! She had impeccable taste and was gifted in this area, she was able to provide and make suitable clothing for herself and household within her budget. In the Old Testament or New Testament wealth and godliness are not incompatible!
There is an artful expression in how one dresses and presents themselves. How you present yourself formally or casually are important. Do not just dress for others. Don't look good just when you leave home... This does not mean that this is your primary focus. Today it is “come as you are” for worship and dress up for work and proms? Or Easter, Christmas and special occasions! One can wear drab, inexpensive or fine clothing yet still inappropriately be adorned in pride fullness! There needs to be a balance! It is important to be neat and tidy in whatever you are adorned. We HIS Church should set the standard for the world! Instead on many occasions the Church follows and conforms to the patterns of the world. Should we not give God our best in all that we do?
The Bible goes into great detail to explain how the Temple was constructed out of the finest materials! There was extraordinary workmanship and intricate detailing upon its furnishings! The walls were adorned in precious stones and gold. The garments worn by those who ministered and attended the upkeep on the Temple were dressed in finely designed marvelous apparel. See I Kings! The problem is not in the clothing... No matter how we adorn ourselves on the outside it is important to know; True Beauty comes from deep within! God knows our hearts! Praise God!!
The Virtuous woman adorns and girds herself with strength, humility and honor! Gird means to bind yourself up with something! There is a reservoir of inner strength exuding from this wonderful, loving, versatile, brilliant, unique, discerning, phenomenal, caring compassionate woman! There is very little time for idleness; her days are long and ever so productive! There is nothing lackadaisical about her at all! Yet she realizes the great benefit of laughter and joy being a part of her household! The welfare of her family is important, she rises early in the morning and is often up late in the evening. She is a happily contented and well adjusted woman who embodies plenty fine desirable qualities that most women should seek regardless if you are single or married! Her countenance reflects that she has been in the presence of the Lord! Spending time with the LORD is so very important!!!
The Virtuous woman is a woman of character and gives sound godly counsel and advice. She takes seriously her commitment to the Lord and does not compromise her values in order to be accepted! Grace and Mercy are her companions and Truth and Love adorns her heart! She knows that what matters most is what matters to God! She embraces His principles over those of the world! “Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of ungodly people. Nor stands in the way of sinners. For His delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law does he meditate day and night…” Psalms 1.
Godliness is accompanied by happiness and contentment! This is what it means to be BLESSED! Even when she is overwhelmed and things are not going her way a woman of God Believes and Trusts the Lord! Her Faith in Him reasures her that it is only for a season. A godly woman is committed to TRUTH! This woman is trusted and praised by her husband and family! We can all learn so very much from this marvelous Proverbs!
We are ALL forever growing as long as we are on this side of Heaven. Let’s get busy becoming all the Lord intended us to be! Commit to live for the Lord everyday! Spend some time alone in His presence! He will then direct your path! He is the ultimate “Audience of One!” He is the only Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God! We have everything in Him that we will ever need! He truly is; The Most HIGH GOD! “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all that live in it, for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His HOLY place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart…” Psalms 24.
The Virtuous woman is continually adorned by God’s transforming Grace, Love and His Favor is resting upon her!
This series on the PROVERBS concludes by sharing with us: “THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN: The WIFE of NOBLE CHARACTER”
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and she lacks nothing of value. She brings him GOOD, not harm; All the days of her life, She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships bringing food from afar. She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. She considers a field and buys it: out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable and her lamp does not go out by night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the handle of the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has not fear for her household; for ALL are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with STRENGTH & DIGNITY; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks WISDOM and FAITHFUL instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise and called her BLESSED; her husband also, and he PRAISES her:
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them ALL. Charm is deceptive Beauty is fleeting; But a woman who FEARS the LORD is to be praised. Give her the rewards she has earned. And let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” To GOD Be The GLORY!

a very interesting read... thanks for sharing your thoughts...blessings....
Thank you and bless you sis.
You continue to be such a blessing and impact so many of us on HubPages. I am a virtuous woman and do take pride in how I dress and look, no matter what I am wearing. I also agree that a man does not make you, but when both of us are evenly yoked then both of us are one. I do fear the Lord and I can only pray that others do too! Thumbs up! :)
Dear Deby, you are also a virtuous woman, keep it up.
Wow! Thanks so much for the teachings in proverbs. I have learnt a lot and will refer to them again.
They say a woman's beauty is really her virtue.
The whole series must have taken you a lot of time to prepare and write. May God reward your labour of love.
Elena xx
The literal translation of virtuous is "war-worthy" and says a lot about the toughness of the noble woman. She is set for the battles of life and the spiritual battles she will face herself and for her family. I as a Christian man the value of this woman and how her testimony lends strength and honor to me and my household. Loved the hub sister. Love you too. Bob.
Deborrah Hello SISTER. I love you. You have Blessed many with proverbs teachings. I am so grateful that your teachings will stay here. The Holy Spirit pours out of you my friend. I will return I have much catching up to do on your teachings.
Deborrah Gods favor shines in you. You are a gem yourself. I would venture to say a Beautiful glorious RUBY.(-; I love your pictures. Awesome. Hugs Galore. Keep Pressing on. I am thankful our paths have crossed. God is so GOOD Amazing Love He is. All Glory to the Father. Hugs Galore sister.
DeBorrah, I have always believed Chapter 31 to be a fitting and beautiful end to the Proverbs. I have heard many men say that they cannot see much in it for them, but I always remind that in the greater scheme of spiritual salvation, those that are saved are referred to as the Bride of Christ and thus it has great wisdom for all. You mentioned right off, verse 3, and how a man should not give his strength unto women. If we look at that from Christ's perspective, we see how Yahshua resisted all the temptations this world had to offer by seeing the wider picture. It is imperitive that men who claim to be of the Lord not be so easily led from their first love. As you have highlighted so wonderfully in other hubs, the temptation to fornicate and commit adultery is ever present, and a good committed man does not fall if His eyes remain steadfast on the Lord. He does this by doing what a virtuous women does for her husband. A virtuous man will invest his whole industry in Christ, rising early and sincerely. As a virtuous wife speaks volumes of her husband, making him known in the gates - so too does a good Christian man speaks volumes of Christ, when he is faithful and confesses his loyalty through word and deed.
P.S. Our youngest daughter has a habit of getting up on some mornings and reading this Proverb to her mother, just to let her know how much she loves her. My wife gets a teary-eye everything time she does this.
Peace.
Wow, this is so beautiful, inspiring and refreshing. So good to always hear how the Lord adores virtuous women. You have captured the very essence of the intention of womanhood in this hub and rewards reaped by being a virtuous woman of the Lord. God Bless You Sister DeBorrah!
Great lesson. Solomon knew what to ask God for, but most of us don't.
This has been a great series. You are a gifted teacher. A woman such as described here is a blessing to all who come in contact with her. What a difference between a Godly woman and the narcissistic nihilists we are surrounded by in America today. God Bless You!
EXCELLENT! "Her ways are not dominated by the ways of the world nor is she oblivious to what is going on." Thank you for bringing this point out to the light! Ladies we must be in-not-of, and closing our eyes to the cry of a hurting world is not Biblical nor is it an option.
This portrayl of a Virtuous woman/wife includes (just as you've eloquently stated) GOD/Family/Work/Community... She did not neglect a thing.
I have often heard this applied to Wife/Mother only, but I agree: there is a lot of wisdom for all women(regardless of marital status)
A very beautiful hub, and so well written. The photos of the ladies in different ages is wonderful and sweet. The beautiful people in the pictures have so much to contribute to love, and to wonderful relationships. What a wonderful gift from God such as love and devotion. God Bless You and your sweet children and loved ones.

DeBorrah, your lectures on Proverbs has been astounding to say the least.
As you have stressed throughout, wisdom is a quest for real value in life that each of us should take very seriously. Those of us living in the Spirit of God understand the superiority of the true “wisdom” revealed in the Proverbs. What the world classifies as wealth and riches seems almost ridiculous when measured against one of THE most precious commodity to be found in all of human existence wisdom.
I appreciate your reflections on marriage, woman of virtue, as well as your penetrating insight that life's nonmaterial values transcends all; that only in things of the spirit does life attain meaning.
Lastly, in each of your “wisdom” hubs was detected the call to turn away from lesser things and to seek the serene worth found in the ways of God.
Thank you for all the work, time, research, wise counsel and love you put into taking us through the glorious wisdom of Proverbs; wisdom which cannot never be superseded or surpassed.
May the Lord in whom we live and move and have our being, continue to meet your every need. God bless you!
Forever His,
