When The Unexpected Happens
There is no doubt that life at times can become overwhelming; a death of a loved one(s), loss of a relationship, a pet, job, career, stress, depression, anxiety, any other unforeseen crisis or possible worse case scenario. This can readily bring on acute stress, disappointment , despair, anxiety, depression and sickness. Denial is not healthy. One must of course face whatever has happened. It is healthy to mourn or grieve the apparent loss or setback. Momentarily it is okay; but don’t camp there! It is not easy when the unexpected happens. One must first begin to acknowledge however it is you are feeling in order to move forward and embark on to embracing your inner emotional healing.
Yes, at some point in time you will experience some type of traumatic experience. But, this does not have to become the theme of your life. If you are centered you do not have to go into a counterproductive mode. For a season your hands may even be tied, rendering a sense of helplessness. You do not want to make life changing decisions while under distress. This will only further complicate your situation and take you further away from resolve. Prepare for change, life is a perpetual transition!
It may even get worse before it gets better. But, know it is only for a season, at some point it will get better! Therefore when the unexpected happens you must make a conscious goal to go through it! Not to stay in it! In order to do this you must learn how to depend on someone who is dependable. Although well meaning if you know someone buckles under distress or flies off the handle all the time. They may not be a viable source to help you through. Preferably someone who can be objective and knows how to go through a crisis.
God is totally dependable! God is a God of order. He can bring you through it and out of it! The one constant you can count on is GOD! Transitions help us become who we were meant to be. One might ask; where was God when this happened? He is just a prayer away! He is in the same place He was when He allowed His Son to be crucified and die on the cross for the sins of the world! Although He died, He arose with ALL power! It is because of Jesus we can always have HOPE when going through!
Planning in advance is great. But I know for a fact no matter how much you plan you cannot avoid the unexpected. There is always something waiting in the wings. Have you ever heard the saying; “ You are either in a storm, coming out of a storm or headed into one ….” You do not have to live your life paranoid. Life is full of the unexpected, some by design and some by course. God has given us so many natural ways in which to see His beauty all around us! Look around and simply begin to enjoy the plethora of wonderful landscapes about you. They are reminders that life is so much bigger than us! God is able! Learn how to persevere, hold on during a crisis and turn to God! Learn how to invite God into the messiness. Here is the time to develop your spiritual muscles!
It is because of God’s unfailing Love for us that we can count on Him and look to Him when the unexpected happens! He can turn it around! All His promises are true! God has promised to take us through everything! This is why it is so important to develop an ongoing relationship with Him! Knowing of God is not the same as KNOWING GOD personally! Start by building an intimate relationship while things are going well. This is the time to develop your healthy coping skills. It is important to learn how to become resilient! We can never totally prepare but we know that life and death are everyday occurrences for someone. This also helps us develop compassion.
Balance is key. However in order to balance it out we must look on the bright side. You are still here! And there is more to come! As long as there is breath in our bodies we are living! The breath of life is a gift from God! Look around us God has given us the seasons to show us how things can change. Just think , it is so beautiful that after a long cold Winter. A beautiful fresh Spring comes forth bringing new life with it! Then a long hot Summer comes welcoming a nice cool Fall! “In this greatly rejoice , though now for a little while , if need be, you have been grieved with various trials, that the genuineness of your Faith, being more precious than gold that perishes, thought it is tested by fire, may be found to praise , honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoiced with Joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your Faith ;the SALVATION of your souls.” Once we realize that we were meant to live life to please God it really makes all the difference in the world! When the unexpected happens, you really can make it! Remember, there is more in store! You can always count on His Word! God’s Love lasts through eternity! When we have God we have everything we will ever need. Absolutely nothing gets by Him that comes our way! Everything is under His control and His promise to never leave or forsake us is so True! I PETER 1 says:
“All flesh is as grass, And all glory of man
as the flower of the grass,
The grass withers
And its flowers falls away,
But THE WORD of THE LORD endures forever.”

You're correct about the unexpected happening, I guess the best thing to do is stay continually praying and hoping for the best and keep expecting to take care it all. We are in the good hands of God, there's nothing or no one greater than he. Thank you Deborrah for a very enlightening hub. creativeone59
My Dad passed away in July last year and at Christmas time I assured myself He was attending the greatest birtday party ever! Really nice hub!
Satan loves to keep us in the prison of our own mind. He makes us believe premises that are not true and keeps niggling us with thoughts that are lies. I am reminded of the song "Mr. Bojangles" where the man loses his dog and after forty years he still grieves. I'm sure it was a nice dog but not worth turning to drink. I'm sure that whatever pain the man in that story had was hooked to the loss of the dog. Obviously there were lies set in his head. The enemy is so good at what he does. We all need to pray for each other and hold each other up each and every day. Love you sister.
This hub is filled with naked realities about life. There is something in the nature of life that presents one difficulty after another. Sometimes, it seems that before we can recover from one situation or one problem in life, we run head on into another. Before we can recuperate from one difficulty, we find ourselves right smack in the middle of another. At times, problems mount and seem to surge out of control. But, I have noticed something peculiar under the sun. Nothing stays the same. Problems, pain, troubles do not last always. God gives us the gift of respite, a time-out, a refreshing, a break from the difficulties. How we choose to use it is our choice. But these are the times when we can experience great moments of joy, moments of special remembrances, moments of exhilaration and appreciation, moments of smiles and humor, moments of praise and thanksgiving. As you so perceptively stated Ogans, "Absolutely nothing gets by Him that comes our way!" Even as we experience turbulence in our lives, God is working everything out according to His purpose and our good. This is an excellent exposition on life.
I just love 'invite God into the messiness',I'll always remember that-I mean you have to be really close to anyone to invite them into your messiness--! Brilliant.
awe, thank you for your hub page as it's great to have people like you that have experienced unexpected events, which I call hiccups! How much we need to depend and believe in Jesus and God's eternal plan.
there have been many losses in my life, but in the end the Lord has proved his faithfulness. Thanks for a great post!
Whenever something comes along that hurts, I remember Romans 8:28. All things work together for good for those who love God and are the called according to His purpose. It always holds true if you're willing to look to HIm for whatever could become good out of tragedy. The Bible says to praise God for all things. That means especially the things that break our hearts. That's the hardest time to prise HIm. It just tells Him, "Lord I am hurting, you know how I am hurting, but I am going to be obedieant and praise You anyay and go through this with You." In the end, you'll see how God has used this hurt to make you into a better image of His Son Jesus Christ. " I can do all things through Christ." This is narrow road that leads to life. No, it's not the easy road, but many are going down the broad road that leads to destruction. Begin starting your day with the Lord. Build a strong relationship with Him! Get gut honest with the Lord. He already knows you better than you know yourself, but it builds intimacy. You are His workmanship. He is your King,He is responsibile for you. He is the only comfort for a broken heart! He's never closer to us than when we are mourning. Wherever you are now begin to draw near to Jesus and He will draw near to you. Resist the devil and he will flee. That's what our Bible says. Good hub, look forward to reading more.
Life is a process, you must learn to process life or life will process you.
Whoa! God is so able. Thank you for the reminder and the confirmation. You have inspired me to trust Him more!
Thank you DeBorrah, I needed this at this moment.
I just love those stunning photos you used.
"Go through it; don't stay in it." What great advice this is.
You have done the world a service with this fine piece of work. Thank you very much for it.
Thru all of lifes circumstances we have always come thru. God said he would never give us more than we could handle. He gives us the strength to overcome all the unexpected. This is a most Benificial hub in helping us to overcome and be comforted in the lord knowing he will be there thru it all so that in the end we will come to a place of peace. Thank you DeBorrah! Blessings..
Great Hub, wish I had witten it!
"Go Through it"
Great advise.
Thank you
Here in my city, few days before about 2 miles away a Petrol storage tank blast and we ran away asap from our house,Thats real unexpected thing , when we celebrating my sisters b'day nd that happen. We can't do anything in these type of problems. We just pray to god, so these type things doent happen again.
Thanks again for another inspiring Motivational Hub. I enjoyed it. I looked at the picture above which said "seasons change" and it reminded me of a Joel Osteen Message I listened to only yesterday - "Being Pruned, so you can Bloom". He said there are different seasons and most of the time, out of the difficult times come beautiful Miracles and gave lots of personal examples.
He likened it to childbirth - the most pain is just before the baby arrives. (sorry, too much info. lol but we're ladies. lol).
So I guess we should look for the good in those Unexpected Events knowing God see's it all.
Regards. :)
Dear Miss Ogans: Your thoughts are so wonderful and lovely as you share them over the passing of loved ones.Such a very nice narative.

Yes God is there to confert us in our stress and trouble.
May God bless you.
Keep up the good work
wonderful work deborrah
---"You do not want to make life changing decisions while under distress. This will only further complicate your situation and take you further away from resolve. Prepare for change, life is a perpetual transition!" --- your words ring such truth and this entire hub is very helpful to read and remind ourselves of the things you say about setbacks, trauma and unexpected things happening but at the same time we can be knowing that GOD will not fail and nothing takes him by surprise and He is with us. Thank you!
"When the unexpected happens" - and it always does - "we have to make that conscious decision to go through it". Great truth, sometimes hard to accomplish, but always can - with Divine strength! Thanks for encouraging words!
My family and I have experienced our share of the unexpected happenings. At the times I was not at the right place with God, they were far more devastating but thank God for his grace in teaching me to stay in that place of balance as he helps me to do so.
I love your images by this Hub. One of my favorite things to do when I'm struggling with something, is to visit some of God's glorious creation and it helps bring peace to my heart. That and seeing the smile and laughter of a baby or a child. Something about those two things bring God's joy to me at times I need an extra uplift!
Thanks for the Hub!
OMG Am Speechless ......

Beautifully said! We must make the choice never to lose hope! A loss of hope causes something to die on the inside of us...expect the unexpected! Thank-you for your hub
A truly lovely and heartwarming hub. Life is full of surprises indeed! But, God is at the helm!
Very inspiring hub and pics. It's comforting to know that God is always in control!
Beautiful photos - very inspiring for being always alert for when the unexpected happens.
Hello again - I've already commented on this Hub. lol.
I just read your comment on "God knows Best" (thanks) and it occurred to me that it would be nice to add one of your articles as they are written in such depth - spiritually uplifting too.
So, I have chosen this one. It fits into the Hub perfectly. Seeing your smile on your Avatar, I'm sure you won't mind if I link it to the Hub.
Thank you.
Best Wishes. :)
You have no idea how much I needed to read this. I wrote a recent hub "God Dropped Me" and what you wrote is like the answer I needed. Itis really hard to get past something when it is still happening or it effects all areas of your life. I've weathered many things but most recently I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and within months I was near bed-ridden and no job, losing money, feeling useless, hard to play with my toddler- it's been rough. Why me God? I didn't know what exactly to pray for or how to with so many things going on at once. Thanks for these words you have written
Thank you, I am still so thankful to have found this hub at the right time and it was just what I needed right away from the title. I need to believe again- believe my body can get better, believe God can heal and believe I still have a purpose.
Magnificent photos and message. We all need this hub and we must refer to it often, so I am saving it in my fav's. Since my beloved and beautiful son passed, there are times when I can barely even allow myself to think of him as it hurts to much. Your beautiful and inspiring hub helps me through those times. I love My Father in Heaven and know that one day I shall receive peace and an understanding of why this had to happen. Cancer is a horrible, evil, destructive disease. I pray each day to find a cure and prevention for this insidious life taker.
Bless you, dear one and thankyou from my heart.
Thank you Deborrah very much for writing this hub, it is full of comforting promises that will help many who read it. Our Lord is so awesome, He alone can keep our minds at peace when tragedy happens.
Well done hub. It is both thought provoking and soulful, and your words are inspiring. Thanks.
This hub was very encouraging, thank you. My family experienced a terrible tragedy in April of this year and it is only by God's grace, I'm able to get through another day. I just keep calling on His name, stay in the Word and surround myself with the wonderful people in my home church. The Lord is surely the lifter of our head during unexpected times.
This hub was so refreshing and encouraging. I feel like my faith has been tested to the point where I feel all hope is gone, but this was a great reminder that storms are the way of of life and I just have to keep holding on. Sometimes I feel foolish for my faith, but when I really think about it - the trials have only made be better and stronger(internally and externally). I don't know what God's plan is for me, but I am certain that HE is definitely in control. In the meantime, I am patiently waiting for the blessings I feel are going on behind the scenes. This too shall pass! Be Blessed.
up and across the board but funny. I am glad I found you here. Really am. I am in that between where I want to believe, but at times, I loose my faith. You really make things clear to me and sometimes, I guess I need reassured on God. I hate to say it, but it is honest. I made many mistakes years ago and I feel like I am being punished even still. I am just confuses amd appreciate any feedback Deb.
DeBorrah K. Ogans my unexpected moment changed my whole life! I have not been the same since, which was for the good! I took sour lemons that were given to me and made lemon aide! What the devil meant for evil, God turned it for the good!! YES!! AMEN!!! I just had a flashback moment!! lol, lol, lol.... GREAT HUB!

I have a very different outlook than most people for when the unexpected happens. I like anyone else goes into shock or disbelief but I quickly pull myself back together and put all in God's hands because I cannot do anything of a death occurs. I can only cry and miss the loved one but for me death is like the person is gone on a long vacation and when they will be ressurected we will be together again.
Many times I look at my Mom's picture and I say.."Mommy, I miss you so much, I can't wait until your return." That is oehope that we have the ones who are believers in God.
One must live and enjoy every moment. I have eyes to see, a nose to smell a mouth to eat, a tongue to talk, ears to hear, arms to hug someone, hands to do anything, feet to walk..many are dumb and deaf, no arms, no feet and some no legs either.
I have sight to enjoy the slightes thing, some don't and cannot even see a beautiful sunset, only feel the warmth of it.
I live in a country where am not without food or clothing, doctors are available and it cost me nothing. I'm 66 and pretty good shape..in many countries at 45 a person is dead.
I have a roof over my head..and a bed with a pillow..Jesus ddidn't have that and many homeless sleep on the ground..in a cardboard box or in a doorway or an alley..easy prey to be robbed, raped or killed.
With my hands I can write in here, feed myself, clothe mmyself, bathe myself ..many don't have hands or fingers or arms to do that or hold someone they love or pet their pet nor can they put their hands together to pray.
I have a voice, I can sing, I can laugh, I can cry, I can do many things, I can praise the Lord.
I have feet to go where I want, to danse, to run, to jump, to do almost anything.
My whole body is a wonder, magnificent gift that I appreciate every day.
I have a brain that is healthy..many don't..many are mentally impaired.
I was very lucky when I was born to have all the above and be healthy and born with all my body intact.
What more could anyone want?
