Missing The Mark
What is sin?
God created us in His image. Image meaning we are to be a reflection of Him. According to Webster’s an exact likeness; semblance God created man in his own image — Genesis 1:27(Revised Standard Version) b: a person strikingly like another person example: she is the image of her mother. We who are believers are now children of God, our behavior should reflect His principles as we grow spiritually. God says that we are to be children of the Light and not to walk in darkness. His Word becomes our “Life Manual” which should be “a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path” it helps to expose the darkness. We are supposed to consistently practice walking in Truth. You know the old cliché that says “practice makes perfect” well to tell the Truth we should really say “practice makes permanent." We become what we practice.
The Lord lights our path as we walk in obedience to His Word. When we walk contrary to His Word we become separated from God. Anything that separates us from God is sin. We in fact “miss the mark.” A skilled marksman aims for a target. Our target as believers should be fellowship with God and walking in the Light of His Word. We are to implement His Word in our lives daily. When we do this sincerely God knows and therefore we have and antidote whenever we miss the mark. Jesus Christ is our Advocate. Once our conscious is sensitive to His Holy Spirit out of obedience we automatically confess, readily repent and begin aiming for the mark.
I John says “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We sin when we disobey God. Sin is anything that separates us from God. So therefore metaphorically a spiritual bathe becomes necessary. We all have inherited the proclivity towards sin from Adam and Eve’s fall. The original sin was when they disobeyed God and did what they wanted to do instead. From that point on mankind became shackled by the snare of sin. Jesus came to restore us and once again anchor us in the Lord. Ephesians tells us that “We were actually chosen in Him before the foundation of the world.” Through Jesus Christ birth, sinless life, death and resurrection we have now been redeemed through His blood!
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us… ” Once we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior we are given the gift of His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter. Our power rests in Jesus Christ we now have access 24/7, we never become the power. This is why we need a Savior to keep us connected and help us whenever sin beckons. Jesus promise that He would give us His Comforter to be with us forever is true! Jesus overcame sin in the flesh for us! “But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit , whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” With Him at our side we can be more than conquerors. As we grow spiritually sin should not dominate our lives. Our lives should now begin to bear and reflect the Fruit of His Spirit which is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control!

What is Sin
Great insight~~~!!!
There is no question of sin to those who have power and authority. They show their strengths by misusing these power and authority.
Well DeBorrah K. Ogans. You are very right. These people are frightened from qualified and good people. However they tortured the qualified peson and the victim has no way to find justice even in well known institute(s) in the world.
Deborah:
I try to begin my day with some sort of spiritual reading. Your comment on my hub inspired me to take a look at yours and the title "what is sin?" interested me. The question of sin and how we account for it in our past, make peace with, and continue to grow so that we do "not miss the mark" are all subjects that I have been contemplating. While I am not a Christian, I believe there are universal truths you have outlined that are important to a daily spiritual practice. For one, if we consistently "walk in the truth", practice "will make permanent". Walking in the truth will bring us a fellowship with one another, and this world is seriously hurting for that sort of fellowship right now. I look forward to your writing.

hello, I so enjoyed reading your hub. I too am a christian and love the Lord with all my being. He saved me so many times in so many ways. And I speak to him every day all day. People probably think i'm crazy i talk to myself but it's God who I speak to asking for help, guidance or whatever I may need. I'm a newbie to hubbing and I have read alot of helpful and interesting hubs. I do ask if you might say a prayer for me. I suffer with a brain tumor and God has kept me going but prayer always helps. thank you
Great take on sin, Deb. You always give me a lot to think about!
A very nice hub well expressed. Informative thoughts to ponder. Your love of God is wonderful, and you have been rewarded by God in many ways. Your intelligence and expression and graceful way of speaking to us in language is our rewarding experience. Your thoughts on sin have a straight forward accuracy about them. Your knowledge of the word is what you share with us from a kindly heart. God Bless you. You are our lovely and sweet earthly angel, with a heart from Heaven ,as you share your precious thoughts with us. How fortunate we are to learn from you. May angels in Heaven always be with you.
Sin is, basically, ones own ignorance. Ignorance is sin and sin is ignorance. Only out of ignorance can sin come to light. If a person were learned in a certain matter, he or she would not be ignorant of its knowledge, understanding and Truth. But because ignorance obscures the Truth, it obscures the Light of God and keeps those in ignorance in darkness. I pray that you think about that in your Heart of Hearts. Brother Johnny.
What is Sin? Anything that separates us from God is sin, ANYTHING! That's the answer, period! GREAT HUB DeBorrah.
Congratulations on this Hub DeBorrah. I looked up the word sin in my handy dandy dictionary, by Mr. Webster. He states that to sin: means to fall short of the mark.
Since God sets our mark for us as Christians, nobody can help but to fall short as God Himself puts it. "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts and my ways higher than your ways." We can never equal or match up to God's heavenly standards.
Only Jesus, who is God made man, qualifies as perfect man.
Brother Dave
Amen.
Another concise, wonderful hub!
Thanks DeBorrah.
Truly a fantastic article, my dear. I agree with you wholeheartedly about what sin is. Your writing is flawless as always; your spiritual eye sees the truth; and your huge heart shines through. Thank you.
Dear lady,
what happend to your rational mind? Will you ever regain sanity? Has any thought of using some logic ever crossed your mind?
These absurd religious arguments you are making here are so off the wall, it clearly shows you lost touch with any form of reality!
Where will you go from here? You really want to spend the rest of your life wasting your mind on religious BS?
Do you see any hope you may regain some sense of what the real world is all about before too long?
Is there some hope left for folks like you? :)

Nicely written even though I don't agree with it.
Religion and Intelligent Thought don't have an natural bridge to come across to each other.
scriptures such as the bible, were created by men (not man) for men and they are interpreted by men. Women, are made to be subservient to men. All men are not created alike. Adam was the only one created from the soil. Eve, from his rib and all others followed Eve.
The God created by the bible has too many attributes of humans and that is not a good thing. Banishing Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden for theft, while doing little when murder was committed by Cain.
Having a talking and cunning serpent in the Garden, what was that all about? By the way, what happened to that serpent, as many people don't consider the serpent as the devil.
I always thought that the sins were violating the ten commandments, wherever they are.
